Pastor’s Note and Intro to Knox News:
A few months back Jess and I were wandering around an unfamiliar town in Wyoming. Having a hard time finding where we wanted to go, we asked directions. The woman we asked was familiar with the town, knew our destination, and was happy to provide directions. I listened carefully, but after 3 or 4 turns and various landmarks to chart our path, she noticed I was getting more and more confused. Finally, she said, “Let me take you there.” And with that, the three of us were off.
This life of faith is not easy. We get tossed about and thrown off course and life does not go as we plan. We hurt, we struggle, we get lost and can’t find our way. We need a Savior. Though Jesus certainly taught and provided directions, he also senses our confusion and exhaustion. He knows we need more than a map and list of directions. We need His presence and assurance, “Let me take you there, I know the way… let me be with you and give you peace… let me take your hand and lead you through this one wild and precious life.”
What we learn from following and adventuring with Jesus is that Jesus gives. He gives life, love, peace, hope, truth, service, healing…
And when we trust and follow Jesus, we discover first-hand a faith that gives. Our faith starts to open up and we look for ways to give of our finances and our time. We look for people we can accompany and bless. We find ways to share our faith and love in word and deed. We not only want to grow in our faith, but we experience how that faith through giving has an impact on the world God so deeply loves.
A community activated by this kind of faith, a faith that gives, is a fun place to be. And that is who we are at John Knox.
